Iowa high school football teams across Iowa stepped onto their respective playing fields on September 21-22 for Week 5 action of 2023 football season, here's a roundup of scores and results:

In Class 5A, Southeast Polk won 42 games to Waukee's 28 to take first place overall and was followed closely by Ankeny Centennial who recorded 72 victories against Des Moines East without anyone scoring, Bettendorf 49 wins from Dubuque Hempstead 7 victories as did Cedar Rapids Kennedy with 61 from Iowa City High 34th Place finishing, Lewis Central 49 from Glenwood 21 coming second and Bettendorf 48 and Dubuque Hempstead 7. No. 7 West Des Moines Valley 35 was Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 14 No.8 Ankeny 48 Iowa City West 21 9 Dowling Catholic 42 Urbandale 7No. 10 Cedar Falls 33 Linn-Mar 21

Class 4A In terms of participation No.1 Western Dubuque 42 was No.2 Solon 35 No.3 Clinton 35 Davenport West 28 No. 4 Pleasant Valley 49 Muscatine 14 No 5 Johnston 31 Sioux City North 28 No.6 Cedar Rapids Washington 21, Cedar Rapids Jefferson 13 No. 7 North Scott 38, Davenport Central 14 No.8 Marshalltown 28, Waterloo West 7 No.9 Sioux City East 42 Mason City Newman 7 No. 10 Dubuque Wahlert 36 Center Point-Urbana 14

Class 3A teams, Williamsburg 49 beat Mount Vernon 21 but trailed Glenwood 42 by one spot before falling short against Oskaloosa 28 No.5 Waverly-Shell Rock 35 and No. 6 Cedar Rapids Xavier 21 No. 7 Liberty-Center 48 with Carlisle 28 as No.8 9 Knoxville 42 as 10 Atlantic 28

Class 2A league had 12 participants: Van Meter 31, Harlan 21 butcher and 21 Harlan; no 3 Grundy Center 49 with Ballard 21 butchering no 5 Marion 35 Mount Pleasant 28 West Liberty 42 Monticello 21 without being in contention as No 1.

In Class 1A, West Sioux 56 edged Dike-New Hartford 28 for first place; Colfax-Mingo 42 finished third while Clear Lake 21 won fifth; 5 East Buchanan 35 finished 6th while Newman Catholic 28th; Don Bosco 58th placed eighth (West Central), 9 North Linn 42nd placed 9th (10 Williamsburg 21st)

1.CAM (Anita), 36; 2.Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton 12, No 3 Remsen St Mary's 55, 4 Mount Ayr 50; No 5 Lenox 54; 6 East Union 8
No 7 West Hancock 49 and 8 Mount Vernon Lisbon 28 were among those competing.

Notable Week 5 Results

Clay Central-Everly finished ninth overall at 38 points while Northwood Kensett came in last with 6 points. On Wednesday afternoon in Class 5A action between Southeast Polk and Waukee, Southeast Polk took an early 21-0 lead before never looking back! They won by 16 points! In other results from Week 5, Waukee defeated Southeast Polk 56-56 as both teams earned victories that will send ripples throughout Class 5.A divisions this fall season.
